About

Hello. I am Jason R. High, owner of High Handiwork in Albany, GA. Even as a kid, my favorite thing to do with my toys was take them apart and see how they work.

After elementary, middle, and high school in Albany, I went and got a Computer Engineering degree (mostly electrical) from Georgia Tech. I worked for a while designing hardware for telecom companies. After being laid off twice in the telecom bubble of the early 2000s, Ispent a few years installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting radar units, cameras, modems, video encoders, databases, etc., for intelligent transportation services.

Looking for meaning out of my work, I decided to scratch an itch that wouldn’t go away. I moved back to Albany, got a degree in music education, and spent 15 years as a teacher and band director. I taught at Albany Middle, Merry Acres Middle School, Westover High School, and Monroe High School, as well as Heritage High School in Conyers, GA. Even as a band director, I took pleasure in repairing as many of my own instruments as I could, as well as making any modifications the band room or my office to make things run as efficiently as possible.

For the same reasons that I got into education, it has come time for me to get out. I have decided to take on a venture of my own, so here we are. As an engineer, I need to understand how things work. As a band director and musician, I have an eye for detail and nuance. I like to fix things and do it the right way.
